The home / school agreement

A Home-School Agreement is a government requirement for all schools. The purpose of the Home-School Agreement is to clearly establish the three-way positive partnership between parent, teacher and child which must be in place for your child to truly benefit from an education.

You will be asked to sign this Home-School Agreement when your child starts school. By signing this agreement all parties are declaring their support for each other:

The staff of St James School say "As teachers we will...
  • teach the curriculum thoroughly, in a varied and interesting way, to meet the needs of our children as individuals as much as possible
  • help children, listen to their problems, care for them and share their interests
  • set good examples and high standards of work, speech and classroom environment
  • speak to parents promptly and regularly about children's education and welfare
  • keep parents and families informed about school matters and listen to parents' views
The children say "As a child of St James School I will...
  • I will follow all school rules, and help others to do the same by being a good example
  • I will respect and look after others, and not bully, but be friends
  • I will be responsible according to my age for looking after my things, and remembering homework, kit, equipment or other tasks
  • I will listen and pay attention in class, try my best, and finish work, including homework
  • I will have good manners towards adults and children, and behave well
The parents say "As a parent or carer I will...
  • ensure my child attends school daily or inform school immediately of any absence, and endeavour to take holidays or non-sick absences out of term time
  • ensure my child attends school punctually, with correct uniform, kit or equipment, and is met punctually at the end of the day if needed
  • support and encourage my child at home, ensure homework is done and returned, and show interest and involvement in whatever my child is learning
  • try support the life of the school, and the efforts of the PTA
  • work with the staff to promote my child's education and welfare, support school aims, values and policies, attend parent's consultations and contribute my own views and suggestions
